
2017 County Bushcraft Day
On Saturday 18th March, six intrepid cubs from Birchwood pack, along with their Akela, inspired by Chief Scout Bear Grylls, took to the woods for the annual County Bushcraft Day. Held at Harmer Green Wood near Welwyn, the bushcraft event gives cubs and their leaders from all over Hertfordshire the opportunity to learn practical survival skills including rope making, fire lighting, shelter building, backwoods cooking, nature trails and making useful camp gadgets. District Archery Competition
On Saturday 11th March 8 members of Birchwood Cubs competed against 13 other teams for the annual District Archery competition. After some time spent practising their archery skills, each cub was given six arrows, with the highest scoring team competing for the coveted title of the archery winners. Donation of £100 from Arup
Through one of our leaders 1st Park Street were lucky enough to be able to enter a Community Engagement Selfie Film Competition run by the world renown engineering consultant Arup. This competition allowed employees from around the UK the chance of winning £4,000 to support their not for profit organisations, by making a short film about their organisation and why they felt passionately that they deserved to win the substantial prize. A well-earned achievement for a special leader
Beaver scouts leader, 'Chipmunk', aka Lorraine Bullock, was proudly presented with the prestigious Wood Badge, on completion of her leader training. Presented on 9th March by Head of Training Mr Andy Petch, the Wood Badge recognises Lorraine's significant achievement in leadership, and her dedicated service to young people.
