The Day we Unleashed the Dragons

On Saturday 13th May, Birchwood Cubs and Colne Scouts came together for a traditional dragon boat race. Held at ESSA Nazeing in Lee Valley, the group of 14 cubs and 12 scouts raced each other on their own boats, before mixing the groups up so scouts and cubs worked together.

Both the Scouting members and their parents thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this traditional sport, started in China over 2000 years ago. A well-recognised and celebrated event throughout Asia, dragon boat festivals are now enjoyed throughout the UK.

Good weather and the opportunity for parents to paddle other types of craft, and children to cool down by jumping in the lake at the end, made for a fun day out for the whole family.
