EU Referendum 23 June 2016

On Thursday 23 June our Scout Hut was used as one of the Park Street polling stations. Hundreds of Park Street and How Wood residents braved the storms and floods to come along and vote as part of the historic EU referendum. 1200 people out of a possible 1600 in the local area, visited the hut between 6am and 10pm to cast their vote.

The uncertain weather conditions seemed prophetic when the Brexit victory was announced the following day, despite St. Albans being one of the boroughs with a majority 'remain' vote. The implications of Britain's EU exit are as yet unclear, but as a Scouting unit this only highlights the need for us to form alliances and partnerships with scouting groups from other countries.
