Scouts go Narrow-boating

Both Colne and Ver Scout troops joined together for a narrow-boating expedition on the Grand Union Canal in Harefield.

Arriving at the Hillingdon Narrow-boat Association Boathouse on the Friday 17th June, after brief goodbyes to parents, all scouts received a safety briefing, before being issued with their buoyancy aids for the weekend’s activities.

Scouts were assessed over the weekend on their training and practice, for the Power coxswain badge. Among the weekend’s activities scouts had the opportunity to hone their narrow-boating skills, including opening locks and working together to manage their boats, as well as being responsible for choosing, purchasing and cooking their meals for the weekend. The boats provided the accommodation for the evening, with boys and girls sleeping on separate boats.

Leaders from both scout packs were present, supported by two explorers. The warm weather and blue skies helped make this a thoroughly enjoyable weekend for all the participating scouts and leaders.
