St. George’s Day Parade 2016
On Sunday 24th April 1st Park Street members from six sections covering Beavers, Cubs and Scouts turned out in the sunny, albeit cool day to participate in the annual St George's Day parade in St Albans.
As always the parade started at the St. Albans Civic Centre, but there was a change to the annual tradition of congregating at the Abbey. Due to the high number of scouting members within the St. Albans District the Abbey didn’t have the space to accommodate everyone, so instead the parade congregated in the Abbey orchard nearby, where they were welcomed by Annette Payne, the St. Albans DC, and the St. Albans Mayor.
Following the speeches everyone sang "Happy" by Farell William and "Hakuna Matata" from the Disney film "The Lion King". This was finished by all the members renewing their scouting promise. All the 1st Park Street members were a credit to their leaders, demonstrating excellent behaviour throughout.
This year's flag bearers for Park Street with the important task of carrying the heavy flags during the parade were:
Representing our Beaver colonies: Sophie H for Thumpers and Lucas M for Conker
Cub packs: Daniel H for Birchwood and Amy T for Wolf
Scouts: Ellie H for Colne and for Ver.
For the 1st time the group had siblings carrying a flag in each section of Scouts - Ellie, Cubs - Daniel & Beavers - Sophie.
